ABSTACT
This study aims to characterize students' mathematical critical thinking skills in solving problems related to linear equations. The background of this study is the low students' critical thinking skills which can be seen from the test results that show very low scores on indicators such as interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and evaluation. on indicators such as interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and inference. inference. The research subjects were 25 students of class XI of SMA NEGERI 4 Sungai Penuh during the academic year 2023-2024. The method used in this research descriptive method with data collection tools in the form of essay tests and interviews. interview. The results showed that the critical thinking ability of students' mathematical critical thinking skills are very low, with an average score on each indicator as follows: 19% interpretation, 14% analysis, 12.5% evaluation, and 5.5% inference. 5,5%. Factors that influence this low critical thinking ability include include a lack of understanding of the material, errors in interpreting the problem, and inability to identify and evaluate solutions. Conclusion The conclusion of this study is that students of class XI SMA NEGERI 4 Sungai Penuh Aladdin has very low critical thinking skills in solving linear equation problems. solving linear equation problems. To improve this ability, increased practice and more effective teaching methods are needed.
