Authorship Criteria

Purpose and Commitment

Praxis: Jurnal Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat is committed to upholding ethical standards in authorship and contributorship. This policy ensures that all individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to a community service program and its associated manuscript receive appropriate recognition. It also promotes transparency, accountability, fairness, and integrity throughout the publication process.

The journal adheres to recognized publication ethics principles, including the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and relevant best practices in scholarly publishing.

Criteria for Authorship

To qualify as an author of a manuscript submitted to Praxis: Jurnal Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat, an individual must meet all the following criteria:

  1. Substantial Contribution: Have made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the community service program, the development of its implementation methods, the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data, or the evaluation of program outcomes and impacts.

  2. Drafting and Critical Revision: Have participated in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.

  3. Final Approval: Have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript before submission and publication.

  4. Accountability: Have agreed to be accountable for their contributions and to help ensure that questions concerning the accuracy, integrity, or ethical conduct of the work are appropriately addressed.

All four criteria must be fulfilled for an individual to qualify as an author.

Participation in community service activities, the provision of funding, administrative assistance, institutional leadership, or assistance with data collection alone does not automatically qualify an individual for authorship.

Contributorship

Individuals who contribute to a community service program or manuscript but do not meet all the authorship criteria should be appropriately acknowledged, with their consent, in the Acknowledgments section.

Examples of contributions that may be acknowledged include:

  • Assistance with community service activities and program implementation.

  • Support with participant recruitment, data collection, or field coordination.

  • Technical assistance and the provision of facilities, equipment, or other resources.

  • Administrative coordination and institutional support.

  • Funding and other material contributions.

  • Editorial, translation, or language assistance.

Contributors who make substantial intellectual contributions and fulfill all four authorship criteria should be listed as authors rather than acknowledged solely as contributors.

Authorship Declaration

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that:

  • All listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria.

  • All authors have reviewed and approved the submitted manuscript and its final version before publication.

  • All authors agree to the authorship list and the order in which their names appear.

  • The contributions of each author are accurately reported.

  • Individuals who contributed to the work but do not qualify for authorship are appropriately acknowledged, with their consent.

  • All relevant ethical, originality, and publication requirements have been addressed before submission.

The journal may request an authorship declaration or author contribution statement to clarify the role of each author. Any disagreement regarding authorship must be resolved before the manuscript proceeds to publication.

Changes to Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after manuscript submission must be supported by a written explanation from the corresponding author. The request must include written agreement from all listed authors and any individuals proposed to be added or removed, as applicable.

The editorial team will assess the request in accordance with the journal's policies and applicable publication ethics guidelines. Changes will only be implemented after editorial approval.

If an authorship dispute cannot be resolved by the authors, the journal may refer the matter to the relevant institutions for further investigation. The journal may suspend the editorial process while the dispute is being addressed.

Equal Contributions

Where two or more authors have contributed equally to the work, this contribution may be indicated in the manuscript through an appropriate statement or footnote. The corresponding author should inform the editorial team of any equal-contribution designation at the time of submission.

Prevention of Authorship Misconduct

Praxis: Jurnal Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat prohibits unethical authorship practices, including:

  • Gift Authorship: Listing individuals as authors despite their failure to meet the authorship criteria.

  • Ghost Authorship: Omitting individuals who have made qualifying intellectual contributions to the work.

  • Honorary Authorship: Including individuals as authors solely because of their position, seniority, institutional affiliation, or personal relationship.

  • Undisclosed Contributions: Failing to acknowledge relevant contributions or misrepresenting the roles performed by authors and contributors.

  • Misrepresentation of Contributions: Claiming contributions to program design, implementation, data analysis, or manuscript preparation that were not actually performed.

Suspected authorship misconduct will be handled in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and relevant COPE guidance. Depending on the circumstances, the journal may request clarification, suspend the review process, reject the manuscript, or take appropriate post-publication action.

Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT)

Praxis: Jurnal Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat encourages authors to use the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) to describe individual contributions transparently. Relevant roles may include:

  • Conceptualization

  • Methodology

  • Investigation

  • Data Curation

  • Formal Analysis

  • Project Administration

  • Resources

  • Software

  • Validation

  • Visualization

  • Writing – Original Draft

  • Writing – Review and Editing

  • Supervision

  • Funding Acquisition

Authors should select only the roles that accurately reflect their actual contributions to the community service program and manuscript. Not all roles are applicable to every manuscript.

The CRediT taxonomy supports transparent contribution reporting but does not replace the journal's authorship eligibility criteria. Each listed author must still fulfill all four authorship criteria specified in this policy.

Transparency and Accountability

Praxis: Jurnal Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat reserves the right to request additional documentation or clarification concerning authorship, individual contributions, and the integrity of submitted manuscripts.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that the information provided about their contributions is accurate and complete. Failure to comply with this policy may result in editorial action, including manuscript rejection or, where warranted, correction or retraction of a published article.

Policy Review

This policy may be reviewed periodically to maintain alignment with recognized publication ethics standards, COPE guidance, the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT), and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.

Any revisions will be communicated through the journal's official website and applied in accordance with the journal's editorial policies.
